 Multi Level marketing companies are an evil of our society. What are MLMs? They are companies that use their distributors or recruiters to sell products. They encourage their distributors to recruit others using word of mouth. Recruiters make money from their “downline” or those they have recruited through compensation, similar to a pyramid scheme. Some MLMs are illegal pyramid schemes. Even Legitimate MLMs often make participants little or no money. They prey on young mothers by pedaling a narrative of being home to help with the kids while also “owning” your own small business. MLM recruiters can often be found stalking for potential recruits on mommy blogs and Pinterest boards. Most who join an MLM will not gain anything and lose money and time. MLMs profit off selling a dream or opportunity to potential recruits rather than actually selling quality products. There are countless accounts from former MLM members warning others of the incredible stress both emotionally and financially from the endeavor.
