I always say that my unique factor is being adopted from China at a young age, so for the purposes of this prompt I will stick to that. Some may say it’s a bit unique to be adopted into a small Kentucky family from China, but I don’t know any different. As I’ve gotten older though, I have come to realize the somewhat unusual circumstance. Being born in China and coming from a fully Chinese biological family, I feel like I should have some connection to my background but living in a southern town with a small Asian population doesn’t help. Most kids my age probably have siblings, but I grew up an only child which gave me a sense of independence. This being said, I’m drawn to colleges in bigger cities with diverse populations and lots of people. I think a lot my childhood was spent with many people who were all very similar. I want the opportunity to meet different kinds of people and get out of the small town.
